Motorola are bouncing back after a string of profit losses and many redundancies the US based manufacturer seems to be bouncing back with a new focus and strategy on delivering all tier Android devices.
In a recent interview with Mobile News Tom Satchwell Mobile devices Business Director of Marketing stated that Motorola had reached a tipping point, they had reinvented themselves, they are not all things and they are focusing on Android as a platform to move forwards. Satchwell went on to discuss the importance of maintaining relationships with networks and praised Orange’s Chief Executive Tom Alexander for their special relationship and who was quoted in the The Times as saying that he loved his Dext device.
Orange was the only network to stock and supply the Motorola Dext Android smart phone, Satchwell explained of the importance of working with networks or distribution partners that shared their vision and passion for such devices. From the interview it seems a though Motorola will work more closely with the networks that retailers at present although decision are taking placing to widen its portfolio reach.
In quick succession the manufacturer launched the Motorola Droid in the US with Verizon and have plans to bring the UK variant called Milestone to the UK although the device is already available in Germany and Italy.
Motorola was the first manufacturer to fall victim to its own success with the RAZR style of designs and didn’t invest enough in R&D (Research & Development) to continue to develop other innovative platforms. Many Motorola users became frustrated with the incumbent operating system stating that it was difficult to perform various functions and lacked the ease of use as the other manufacturers. In the mobile industry beauty or creatively designed handsets can only take you so far, to reach the next milestone you need to invest heavily in the operating system and how to seamlessly integrate applications into the end users life – no other than the iPhone or Android devices are testament to this statement.
Motorola’s new strategy just makes sense it focus on a open source platform as it’s cheaper for them which in turn should be cheaper for the customer. Satchwell did state that they will launch Android based devices at all levels with market segments and wouldn’t necessarily state their targets for regaining market share but instead focused on the important goal and returning Motorola back to profitability through investing in good marketing, devices and building stronger relationships with its partners.
Well, from us – The Human Manual we welcome back Moto.
